The Sports Hardtop Coupe, the hardtop with a convertible top "look", was introduced mid-year in '63. The
fastback style roof added flair to the big Galaxie and helped the Fords on the big circle tracks in the south.
With the new fastback, powered by the 427, Ford won every 500 mile race in '63.
The series 60 Galaxie 500XL Hardtop Coupe Fastback was coded as a 63B. It weighed 3,772 lbs. with a base
price of $2,674. Production total was 134,370.
I built the kit out of the box. Exterior is finished with authentic Rangoon Red from MCW Automotive
Finishes, sanded and polished. Roof was done with Model Master Black Chrome Trim and rubbed with a
terry cloth rag. The engine block was finished with authentic Ford Engine Blue from Model Master. Bare
Metal Foil was used on all exterior and interior chrome trim. Bumpers were stripped, all defects repaired and
replated.
I had one of these in my younger days. What a great car it was!
